Benin, officially the Republic of Benin (French: République du Bénin), is a vibrant West African country known for its deep-rooted traditions, warm hospitality, and vital role in the cultural and historical development of the region. Situated along the Gulf of Guinea, Benin is bordered by Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Niger. While the capital city is Porto-Novo, the country’s energetic economic and cultural hub is Cotonou—where our PTPI Benin Chapter is based.
About the Chapter
The PTPI Benin Chapter is part of PTPI’s wider Africa Region and represents a growing voice of youth leadership and community service in West Africa. The chapter is committed to advancing peace through understanding by facilitating educational outreach, cultural engagement, and humanitarian projects. Its members, many of them young professionals, educators, and students, have organized local awareness events, clean-up days, and youth dialogues on pressing social issues.
As part of our African Network, PTPI Benin shares a common goal with sister chapters: to uplift communities from within and build sustainable, people-centered initiatives.

Why Benin Matters in PTPI
Benin is one of the region’s most historically significant nations. Once known as the Kingdom of Dahomey, it played a key role in West Africa’s pre-colonial, colonial, and post-independence narratives. Today, it is a democratic country with a stable political framework, a youthful population, and growing aspirations.
With a population of over 13 million (2021 est.), Benin’s strength lies in its cultural richness and community spirit. The country’s coastal towns, colorful markets, and historic sites—such as the Route of Slaves in Ouidah—are reminders of both past struggle and the hope that drives its future.
