Welcome to People to People Delaware
People to People Delaware brings people together through cultural exchange, education, creativity and practical community action.
We are an incorporated nonprofit organization registered in Delaware and recognized by the United States Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) organization. Eligible donations are tax-deductible in the United States.
As part of the international People to People network, we connect local action in Delaware with people and communities around the world. From youth art and international film to partnerships supporting families in Togo, our work advances Peace through Understanding.
There is always more ahead. Whether you would like to visit Winterthur, donate winter clothing, enjoy an international film, support a community project or help nurture peace in Delaware, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Wilmington Delaware International Film Festival

The film festival will be followed by a painting party. Last year’s painting activity was great fun, so expect colour, conversation and a few artistic surprises.

2026 Youth Peace Art Mural Workshop
The 2026 Youth Peace Art Mural Workshop was a wonderful success.
Our thanks go to the Boys and Girls Club of Dover, which helped take the programme beyond Wilmington and into Delaware’s state capital.
Award-winning Wilmington folk artist Eunice LaFate led the creative activity for the second year in Dover. Through colour, imagination and shared expression, young people explored what peace means to them and how art can help communities communicate across different experiences.
The workshop demonstrated something at the heart of People to People: peace is not only discussed. It can be painted, shared and created together.

People to People Delaware in Togo
People to People Delaware has a longstanding relationship with community partners in Kpome, Togo.
Chapter Board member Erin Bastien has regularly visited Newlove Bobson Atiso and supported fundraising for a gari-processing facility serving the community.
Newlove works alongside approximately 280 small-scale farmers through the Interfaith Peacemaking Teams. These teams bring people from different religious and cultural backgrounds together to address poverty, hunger and climate-related hardship through practical cooperation.
Why gari matters
Gari is a flour made from cassava and is a staple food across much of West Africa. It helps families create filling and nutritious meals and can also provide a dependable source of local income.
Traditionally, cassava processing is slow and physically demanding. Much of this work falls to women and girls, who can suffer injuries when using manual methods.
Modern processing equipment will help the community to:
- Produce gari more safely and efficiently
- Improve food security for local families
- Package and sell gari in nearby markets
- Generate income for food, education and healthcare
- Strengthen resilience against poverty and climate pressures
This is more than an equipment project. It is a community-led plan for greater dignity, opportunity and independence.
Bringing Light to Kpome
A donation of 748 solar lanterns was made for families in the same Kpome community.
When the shipment was held at customs and faced being declared abandoned because the community could not afford the required fee, People to People Delaware stepped in and paid it.
The lanterns can now help children study after sunset and allow families to continue important household and community activities in the evening.
This practical act shows what international friendship can achieve: people in different parts of the world identifying a problem and working together to solve it.
Honouring Chapter Leadership
People to People Delaware proudly recognizes former co-presidents Dr Saleem Khan and Jean Raleigh.
Their calm and principled leadership during a period of crisis and transition in August 2019 reflected the very best of People to People values. Their service, compassion and commitment to citizen diplomacy continue to inspire the chapter.

Delaware may be the second-smallest US state, but it carries a surprisingly large share of American history, coastal culture and community tradition.
Delaware Day
Delaware is known as The First State because it became the first state to ratify the United States Constitution, on 7 December 1787.
Each year, 7 December is observed as Delaware Day, celebrating the state’s place at the beginning of the American constitutional union. The tradition has been formally recognized by Delaware’s governors since 1933. Learn about Delaware Day.
A taste of Delaware
Visitors looking for a genuinely regional breakfast experience may encounter scrapple. It is traditionally made with pork, cornmeal and spices, formed into a loaf, sliced and fried until crisp.
The name can sound rather more alarming than the breakfast. It remains a much-loved food across Delaware and the wider Mid-Atlantic region. Bridgeville even celebrates its agricultural and food heritage through the Apple Scrapple Festival.
Delaware’s coast is also known for blue crabs, seafood and traditional crab feasts, where the meal is as much a social occasion as a culinary one.

Located on the banks of the Brandywine River, Hagley explores Delaware’s industrial heritage and the early history of the DuPont company.
Visitors may also enjoy historic Dover, the state capital, and the natural landscapes of Delaware Bay and the Atlantic coast.
