Welcome to The Gambia – The Smiling Coast of Africa

The Gambia Chapter of People to People International is proud to represent one of West Africa’s most vibrant and culturally rich nations. As the smallest country on mainland Africa, The Gambia may be compact in size, but it is vast in spirit, diversity, and warmth.

About the Chapter
Under the leadership of Chapter President Demba Kandeh, PTPI The Gambia continues to build bridges of understanding through local engagement and international exchange. With a strong commitment to youth empowerment, community outreach, and cultural exchange, the chapter plays a vital role in promoting PTPI’s mission of Peace through Understanding across the region.

Demba also serves on the PTPI General Assembly (GA), providing valuable insight and leadership for the organization at a global level.

Why Visit The Gambia?

🌍 Rich Cultural Heritage
The Gambia is home to a tapestry of ethnic groups, each contributing to the country’s diverse traditions, music, dance, and storytelling. Visitors can immerse themselves in cultural festivals and visit historic sites such as the UNESCO World Heritage site, Kunta Kinteh Island (formerly James Island), and the National Museum in Banjul for a deeper understanding of Gambian heritage.

🌊 Breathtaking Beaches & Natural Beauty
The Gambia’s Atlantic coastline offers miles of golden sands and tranquil waters, perfect for relaxation and adventure. Popular beach towns like Kololi, Bakau, and Fajara are not only beautiful but buzzing with local hospitality. Inland, you’ll find lush greenery and incredible biodiversity in places like Abuko Nature Reserve and Kiang West National Park, perfect for wildlife lovers and birdwatchers.

🌱 Community-Based and Eco-Tourism
PTPI The Gambia supports responsible and sustainable travel. The chapter is connected to local community-based tourism initiatives, allowing visitors to participate in authentic Gambian life—whether through village visits, cooking, crafts, or traditional farming experiences. Eco-adventures such as riverboat journeys on the Gambia River also showcase the country’s unique natural ecosystem, including sightings of hippos, crocodiles, and vibrant birdlife.
