About the Chapter

The PTPI Japan Chapter, headquartered in Ogaki City, has been a dedicated and inspiring force within People to People International for many years. Led by Ruriko Nakajima, a long-serving leader who also sat on the PTPI Board of Directors at the former World Headquarters in Kansas City, the chapter continues to exemplify the spirit of Peace through Understanding through every action.

The chapter has proudly hosted numerous homestay exchanges, especially with members from Denmark, helping to build deep and lasting personal friendships across cultures. Their warmth and generosity have left lasting impressions on visitors from all over the world.

In addition to its hospitality, the chapter has participated in PTPI global events across Asia and beyond — including Nepal, South Korea, and Taiwan — and actively supports youth education, cultural immersion, and international dialogue.

About Ogaki

Ogaki, in Japan’s scenic Gifu Prefecture, is affectionately known as the “City of Water.” This historic location played a key role in Japan’s feudal past and is the final resting place of the great haiku poet Matsuo Bashō, making it a cultural treasure for literature lovers.

🌸 What to see and experience in Ogaki:

  • Ogaki Castle – A beautifully preserved castle that showcases the city’s rich history.

  • Bashō Memorial Museum – Honoring Japan’s most famous poet and his poetic journey.

  • Local tea ceremonies, flower arrangement, and calligraphy workshops – Inviting visitors into the heart of Japanese tradition.

  • Seasonal festivals and cherry blossom viewing – Bringing communities and visitors together in celebration.

Global Connections

PTPI Japan maintains strong relationships with many chapters, including:

  • PTPI Ulsan, South Korea

  • PTPI Tainan, Taiwan

  • PTPI Nepal
