People to People International has received a message from our chapter in the Democratic Republic of Congo describing the severe humanitarian conditions affecting communities in the eastern regions of the country.

The provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu, and Ituri are currently experiencing one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world. Millions of people have been displaced by ongoing conflict, leaving families without shelter, food, education, or access to healthcare.

Local communities continue to show extraordinary resilience despite these conditions.

Urbain Kapoko, President of the PTPI DR Congo Chapter in Kinshasa, has shared the concerns and hopes of local volunteers who are determined to contribute to rebuilding their communities.

The chapter is preparing initiatives focused on:

  • Supporting orphaned and vulnerable children
  • Vocational training for young people
  • Peace education and social cohesion programs
  • Assistance for displaced families
  • Community rebuilding projects such as schools and community centres
  • Local entrepreneurship and income-generating activities

While large-scale humanitarian assistance is being delivered by international organisations already operating in the region, local community leadership remains essential for long-term recovery and reconciliation.

PTPI’s role is not to deliver emergency relief operations, but to strengthen human connections, support youth leadership, and encourage community-based solutions that foster peace and understanding.

We are currently exploring ways our global network may be able to support the efforts of the PTPI DR Congo chapter and their local partners.

Members and friends of PTPI who would like to learn more or explore ways to assist are invited to contact the PTPI office.
