One of the things that makes People to People International so special is how easily friendships flourish — and endure — wherever we go. 🌍✨

This month, Mike and Mary Hermida have been journeying through Europe, connecting with PTPI members and friends along the Rhine. I had the pleasure of meeting them in Cologne, Germany, on 1 November, where our conversation over a local beer reminded me how shared values — and good humour — travel effortlessly across borders. 🍻

Just days later, in Heidelberg, Mike and Mary met Maria, one of Janusz’s remarkable students, now embarking on a six-year program that will earn her both an MD and PhD. Their exchange over lunch brimmed with optimism — a belief that this next generation will steward our world with wisdom, compassion, and respect.

Their next stop was Basel, Switzerland, where they reunited with Christiane from Hamburg, a long-time PTPI friend. What began with coffee at noon turned into a lively afternoon at the Basel Autumn Fair, followed by laughter and storytelling over wine. Christiane even brought her flight forward from Sardinia to make it happen — true PTPI spirit in action! ❤️

Across each city, one theme stands out: the enduring power of connection. PTPI isn’t only about meetings or programs — it’s about the lifelong friendships that bridge cultures, generations, and miles.

Here’s to the Hermidas — and to every member who continues to make our world a smaller, kinder, and more joyful place. 🌍🤝
