PTPI Kenya’s Tree Planting Project and a Seven-Year Commitment to Community
For more than seven consecutive years, People to People International Kenya has quietly and consistently delivered one of PTPI’s most grounded and impactful environmental initiatives: the Adopt a Plant / Tree Planting Project.
The project is led by Franklin Okello, the PTPI Kenya Chapter President and a long-standing leader within PTPI Africa. His sustained leadership, together with committed volunteers and educators, has been central to the project’s continuity and credibility.
The impact, so far
The figures speak for themselves:
- 7+ years of uninterrupted activity
- Approximately 5,000 learners engaged
- Over 100 teachers involved
- Active implementation across five schools
- Ongoing participation from families and local communities
Trees are planted, nurtured, monitored, and integrated into school life. Young people learn not just how to plant, but why it matters—for soil health, shade, food security, climate resilience, and responsibility to future generations.
Continuity matters
In many contexts, community projects struggle with short-term funding or leadership turnover. PTPI Kenya’s achievement is different.
Under consistent local leadership, this work has continued:
- through economic pressure,
- through climate stress,
- through the pandemic years,
- and with minimal external funding.
That continuity reflects local ownership, earned trust, and a clear understanding of the community’s circle of concern—beginning with schools and extending outward to environmental responsibility for future generations.
Why this project deserves support
PTPI’s strength lies in citizen diplomacy and long-term engagement, not short-lived campaigns. This project exemplifies that approach.
100% of all donations go directly to the project, supporting:
- seedlings and nursery materials
- tools and basic infrastructure
- training and supervision
- continuity across school years
No marketing fees. No overhead deductions applied to these contributions.

A shared responsibility
PTPI Kenya’s Tree Planting Project shows what is possible when communities are trusted, leadership is consistent, and responsibility is shared.
This is not just about trees.
It is about education, dignity, climate resilience, and peacebuilding at community level.
We are proud to support the work of PTPI Kenya and Franklin Okello, and we invite the wider PTPI family and friends to stand with them.
