PTPI Homestay & Travel Participation Terms

🌍 PTPI Homestay & Travel Participation Terms

Please read before making any reservations.

At People to People International (PTPI), our Homestay and Travel Programs offer transformative experiences in cultural exchange, personal connection, and global understanding. Whether you’re staying with a host family or joining a PTPI travel experience, we celebrate your decision to engage in purposeful travel.

But participation requires informed consent and clear responsibility.

Before confirming your participation, please carefully read and accept the following terms:

🛡️ Traveler Responsibility & Acknowledgement

By choosing to take part in a PTPI Homestay or Travel Program, you acknowledge that all risks and responsibilities are fully your own. As a volunteer-led nonprofit, PTPI has no legal mandate to accept liability for any outcomes related to your participation.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Injury, illness, accidents, travel delays, lost property, theft, or third-party service failures

  • Any personal or financial consequences arising from participation

Participants are fully responsible for:

  • Obtaining and maintaining valid travel documents, vaccinations, and insurance

  • Securing adequate travel and international medical insurance, including emergency coverage

  • Ensuring they are physically fit and prepared for the journey ahead

✈️ Flights & Local Travel

PTPI does not arrange or cover international travel. All participants must independently organize their flights and local transportation in line with the program’s schedule.

🏠 Homestay Considerations

Our Homestay Program is designed to offer genuine, grassroots-level cultural exchange through volunteer hosts, not commercial services.

  • Accommodation quality and amenities may vary

  • Cultural sensitivity and flexibility are essential

  • Participants must disclose dietary restrictions, medical needs, or accessibility concerns well in advance

  • Hosts are not responsible for healthcare, personal travel, or off-program arrangements

🧾 Eligibility & Conduct

Participants agree to:

  • Represent PTPI respectfully and uphold our values of peace, dignity, and cross-cultural understanding

  • Follow all local laws and PTPI community standards

  • Remain adaptable, inclusive, and communicative throughout the experience

📝 Your Declaration

By reserving a spot or confirming participation, you confirm that you have read, understood, and accept these terms and conditions. You travel as a responsible global citizen and take full personal responsibility for your experience.

🙌 Let Purpose Guide You

At PTPI, we believe in travel with intention — building friendships, exchanging ideas, and creating positive impact. Your well-being and preparedness are vital to this shared journey.

Risks of Traveling Abroad

I understand that participation in the People to People International (PTPI) Homestay and Travel Programs (referred to below as the “Program”) involves risks. These include risks involved in travelling to and within, and returning from, one or more foreign countries; foreign political, legal, social, and economic conditions; different standards of design, safety and maintenance of utilities, including buildings, public places and conveyances; local medical and weather conditions. I have made my own investigation and am willing to accept these risks.

I understand that PTPI does not represent or act as an agent for, and cannot control the acts or omissions of, any host institution, host family, transportation, carrier, hotel, tour organizer, or another provider of goods or services related to the Program. I understand that PTPI is not responsible for matters that are beyond its control.

I release PTPI from liability for any injury, loss, damage, accident, delay, or expense arising out of any such matters. PTPI is not responsible for any fees (including duty fees, visitor fees, landing fees, etc.).

In the event funds are spent by any party on the participant’s behalf, the participant will reimburse that party for those amounts. Participants will repay any amounts paid by or received from the host family (including phone calls, loans or other expenses). PTPI is not responsible for those amounts. Participants travelling with the Program are responsible for reimbursement of any damage or costs to third parties as a result of the participant’s actions and will compensate PTPI for any such costs.

Institutional Arrangements and Fees

Independent Activity

I understand that neither PTPI nor any employee or other representative is responsible for any injury or loss I may suffer when I am travelling independently or am otherwise separated or absent from any PTPI-supervised activities.

PTPI has the right to make cancellations, substitutions, or changes in the case of emergency or changed conditions including without limitation the level of participant interest in the Program. If I leave or am excluded from the Program for any reason, there will be no refund of fees already paid. I accept all responsibility for loss or additional expenses due to delays or other changes in the means of transportation, other services, or sickness, weather, strikes, or other unforeseen causes.

Program Changes

Release from Claims

Knowing the risks described above, and in consideration of being permitted to participate in the Program, I agree, on behalf of my family, heirs, and personal representative(s), to assume all the risks and responsibilities surrounding my participation in the Program.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, I release and indemnify PTPI and their officers, employees/volunteers, and agents, from and against any present or future claim, loss, or liability for injury to person or property that I may suffer, or for which I may be liable to any other person, during my participation in the Program (including periods in transit to or from any country where the Program is being conducted).
